Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression runs on your device in a background worker. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works for private documents like ID scans.
How does Target size work?
It tries the highest quality that fits under your size. If even a medium quality is too big, it makes the picture a little smaller instead of making it blurry, and then finds the best quality at that size. If a file still can't fit, it says so and gives you the smallest version.
Is 50 KB 50,000 or 51,200 bytes?
Here 1 KB = 1,024 bytes, the way most form portals count it, so 50 KB means up to 51,200 bytes. If a site counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, enter a slightly lower target, such as 48 KB for a 50 KB limit. Each result shows its exact size in bytes.
Does it remove location data?
Yes. The image is drawn again from its pixels, so EXIF data such as GPS location, camera model and date is not copied into the compressed file. Photos are turned the right way up first.
Why didn't my PNG get smaller?
PNG is lossless, so there is no quality to lower. Save as JPG or WebP for photos, or tick Limit width and height to make the picture smaller. Screenshots and logos usually stay sharp as WebP.
Can a compressed file be bigger than the original?
Yes, if the original was already heavily compressed. The result shows the change in %, so you can try a lower quality or keep the original.
Are there limits?
Up to 100 MB and 50 megapixels per image, and 50 images at a time. Target size tries many settings, so large photos take a few seconds each.
