Questions
What's the difference between a value and a full URL?
A value is one piece, such as a search term, so characters like / ? & = are escaped and can't break the URL. A full URL keeps those characters because they hold the address together, and only escapes spaces, Unicode and other unsafe characters. They match JavaScript's encodeURIComponent and encodeURI.
Why does + sometimes mean a space?
HTML forms encode spaces as +. In other parts of a URL, + is just a plus sign. Tick the option only when the text came from a form or a query string.
What does "malformed % sequence" mean?
Every % must be followed by two hexadecimal digits, like %20. A lone % or something like %G1 can't be decoded. If you meant a literal percent sign, it should be written as %25.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Encoding and decoding run in your browser, and nothing you paste is uploaded.
